MUSEUM OF ICE CREAM – CHICAGO

This awesome museum is tucked away in the midst of downtown Chicago and is truly escapism at its finest!

We booked our tickets in advance, and it is cheaper to book a timed entrance ticket and to book it before the afternoon! It was really easy to find where the museum is because it is a huge pink doorway that is really bright and a large contrast to the stores and neighboring shops!

When we got there, they checked our tickets, which I added to my phone for ease of use. They guided us into the main waiting room and you guessed it – it was totally pink! Here they went over some first steps and some cool facts! They told us the ice cream was unlimited and that there are only 5 ice cream museums in the world, including the one in Chicago! To view their website click HERE!

They explained that the first step is to create a name that we could use on our name tags, this could be related to ice cream or sweet treats, or it could be completely different. It was totally up to you! I chose to have my name be Peach, others chose Cherry, Rose, etc! After choosing your name, we were led into a pink subway/train cart where they gave us our last talk about moving through the rooms, then we were officially on our way! As soon as you enter the next room, you get a dove bar! This is a vanilla bar that is dipped in chocolate, you got to pick from milk chocolate or dark chocolate! This was a tasty treat and the ideal way to start off this journey!

Then, we were led into the large main room, where you start and end your walk through the museum and where there is a bar, bathrooms and seating! We started taking our time and walking through each room, it is very kid-friendly as expected, there is lots of room for kids to play and lots of activities! The first room had an ice cream lab which mimicked a school science lab! There are also a lot of touch screens placed throughout the museum where there are small guessing games and interesting facts!

Next was the jellybean room! This had jelly bean wallpaper and a huge jellybean right in the middle, there was also even more ice cream in this room, they served chocolate soft serve in a cup or on a cone here, and you can also add sprinkles! Something to note is that the ice cream flavors and treats do change so the ice cream treats that I got may be different from someone else’s experience!

Then, we went into another room that had a really cool ice cream wall that was large plastic scoops of different types of ice cream from all over the world! And when you lift up each scoop it tells us a little history about it! There was also a large “Where’s Waldo” type of game that was shown through tiled LED screens and you needed to find as many cherries as you could! Here we could get raspberry sorbet or mint chocolate chip ice cream, I got the raspberry sorbet and it was one of my favourites for the day!

The next room we entered was really cool because you got to play minigolf, but it also had hot dog ice cream. I know, it was not my favourite at all, they gave it to you on a sweet hotdog shaped bun, they ice cream was spicy and meaty and you can also top it with real mustard and relish, needless to say, it was not for me! Luckily, there was also a pineapple sorbet that we could indulge in instead!

Next, there was a game room, with carnival and arcade style games which was so much fun! We got to play basketball and much more, and of course there was more ice cream! This is where I got my favorite ice cream flavor of the day! You had a choice of cookie monster ice cream – which was a play on cookies and cream or a lime sorbet! I went for the lime sorbet and it was awesome, it was refreshing, not too sweet and the perfect way to end the museum!

This was the last room and led back to the main room, where we started our walk through! Here is where we got some cocktails, which honestly I would not recommend, for the price you can get a much better crafted cocktail elsewhere, these didn’t have much flavour and were a bit lackluster!

We exited through the sprinkle room, which had a pool full of giant sprinkles. There were so many kids here having an awesome time jumping in! We continued to exit through the hallway that led to the small gift shop area and then finally outside!

This was an awesome – possibly once in a lifetime experience! If you ever stumble upon an ice cream museum, take the plunge and experience it! It’s really cool in the way that it engulfs you and you forget you are in a big city!

Sincerely, Celine
