In Vancouver – one must hike! I couldn’t stop admiring the stunning mountains that surrounded us in Vancouver, specifically Powell River, and needed to get up and moving! With that being said we didn’t have too much time and this hike was perfect! It took us about 30-40 minutes total. It is under one kilometer in distance!

It is a short and sweet hike – with stellar views, but do be prepared for a steep incline, the entire way up you are ascending including a 100 step climb up wooden and rocky steps. However it is undoubtedly some of the best views in the Powell River area!
The hike is quite easy to find and there is a parking area right at the entrance to the trail – it is pretty well marked on the starting point and the addition of the option to listen to an informational recording while venturing up the hike! Once you start on the trail, it is easy to stay on, there aren’t any crossroads, or other ways to get off the beaten path, unless you intentionally do! It is to be noted that this is not a busy trail, and there is wildlife that frequently inhabit this area, so it is advised to stay on the trail and venture out safely.

After a short walk up, you will get to the series of rocky steps. This can be a little tough for younger children as there are about 100 steps and they are a bit unleveled with cracks, dents and other imbalances. However once you get to the top it is totally worth it!

There are stunning views for the entire historic town of Powell River, as well as the large metal ships from WWII that form a breakwater, they are commonly known as “the hulks” and there are multiple viewpoints where you can take in the sights of these ships – however this was my favourite spot to view them! You can also see the old paper mill that is now permanently closed, but it is still definitely a sight to see!
It is a great hike for anyone in the area and you will not regret going up the steps once you catch a glimpse of the views at the top!
Sincerely, Celine
